Retail Display Execution - Spectrum Brands Case Study

How Clark managed a high-volume retail display program for Spectrum Brands, building and shipping 12,000+ store-ready displays for Lowe’s, Walmart, and Home Depot while hitting every required set date.

Hitting critical set dates for national lawn and garden programs at Lowe’s, Walmart, and Home Depot.

The customer

Spectrum Brands is a global consumer products company with lawn and garden brands sold through many of the country’s largest home-improvement and mass-market retailers. Seasonal retail programs require large volumes of product and displays to be assembled, prepared, and distributed on tight schedules.

The situation

For Spectrum Brands, the spring lawn and garden season creates an unforgiving logistics calendar. Lowe’s, Walmart, and Home Depot establish specific set dates for seasonal merchandise, and hundreds of retail displays have to arrive store-ready and built to each retailer’s exact specifications.

A late shipment can mean more than a missed delivery. It can mean lost selling days during one of the most important periods of the year, retailer chargebacks, and disruption at the store level.

Spectrum needed a logistics partner capable of managing the entire program reliably, from receiving bulk product and display components through assembly, staging, and final distribution.

What was at risk

Each retailer has different requirements for display configuration, product placement, labeling, packaging, and shipping. At the same time, thousands of individual components have to move through the operation without compromising accuracy or the final delivery schedule.

There is very little room for error.

When the retailer gives you a set date, the date isn’t a target. It’s the deadline.

What Clark did

Clark received Spectrum’s bulk inventory and display components at its St. Louis facility and managed the program through final shipment.

Over the course of the spring program, Clark:

  • Built more than 12,000 retail-ready displays

  • Executed separate display configurations for Lowe’s, Walmart, and Home Depot

  • Managed retailer-specific product placement, labeling, and packaging requirements

  • Coordinated inventory and components across multiple simultaneous programs

  • Staged completed displays by retailer and destination

  • Shipped to more than 800 retail locations and distribution points nationwide

  • Managed retailer compliance documentation throughout the program

Clark dedicated experienced assembly teams to the program and built production schedules backward from each retailer’s required set date. Daily production tracking gave the team visibility into progress and allowed resources to shift as volumes changed.

The result

100%

of required retail set dates met

Clark built and shipped more than 12,000 displays across three major national retailers without missing a single scheduled set date.

12,000+ Retail-ready displays built

800+ Retail destinations served

3 Major national retail programs

0 Missed set dates

The program was completed without retailer compliance rejections or costly last-minute recovery shipments.

In the customer’s words

“Clark understands that getting the display built is only half the job. It has to be built correctly, shipped correctly, and in the store when the retailer expects it. They’ve consistently delivered for us.”

— Spectrum Brands

The takeaway

A national retail display program doesn’t require the biggest 3PL. It requires the right people, disciplined processes, and a partner that understands what is at stake when a retailer sets a deadline.

For Spectrum Brands, Clark turned thousands of products and components into store-ready displays and got them where they needed to be, when they needed to be there.

That’s the kind of hands-on logistics work Clark is built for.
